Exodus 20:14 - Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Adultery is defined as: voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his or her spouse.

Synonyms of this word are: disloyalty, infidelity, unchastity, falseness, unfaithfulness, fornication, entanglement.

Leviticus 20:10 - And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

God is saying, to all who will turn to Him, warning what great condemnation this will bring to the soul of all who commit this sin. He is teaching all who will listen to turn away from this, for it carries with it great destruction for the soul of man (all people). Be wise and turn away from the evil woman, the seductress that would have you turn toward her, refuse it, pass not by it turn and pass away. For the turning away of the simple (who does not understand) shall slay them and the prosperity of fools (those not willing to take the time to seek and know the ways of the Lord) shall destroy them.

Proverbs 6:32-33 - But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

The Lord showed me adultery as a froglike spirit, with long hair. It waits to leap upon the unsuspecting person. The sin of adultery once it is committed, is like a wart that grows roots penetrating deeply, it becomes painful, so painful in fact that one cannot walk properly. The sin of adultery hinders you from being able to walk correctly with the Lord, because you have not walked uprightly before the Lord, you have sinned against the Lord. Now there is only pain. Try as you might to trim it down, no matter what you try to do to rectify it or ignore it, you are unable to do anything to be rid of it becaue the roots are deeply in you. The only solution to remove it is surgery. The Lord showed me this in a very tangible way that I will never forget. This lesson about adultery is in my mind so clearly, there is no question in my mind what God's thoughts are about this sin: opportunity seeking, seductive, the end of which is ugly, painful, and difficult to be rid of.

Matthew 5:27-28 – [Jesus said] Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

This is strong warning – to look at a woman to lust after her, or to look at a man to lust after him in doing so they have already committed adultery in their heart with that person.

The sin is not only in the physical action, but in the permissions of the heart, what you allow yourself to do in your heart.

James 1:14-15 - But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
